"But the Lord said to Samuel, "Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.""
— 1 Samuel 16:7
We live in an age where we are constantly being evaluated. Our social media profiles, our professional achievements, our physical appearance — everything seems to be subject to judgment. Society teaches us that value is measured in visibility, in numbers, in impressions. But there is a truth that needs to pierce our hearts today: God does not look at any of these things when He seeks His heroes.
When the prophet Samuel went to anoint the new king of Israel, he arrived at the house of Jesse with a clear mission. He observed the eldest son, Eliab, a man of impressive appearance, and thought: "Surely this is the Lord's anointed." But God corrected him immediately. The one who seemed perfect in human eyes was not the Lord's choice. One after another, Jesse's sons passed before Samuel, and all were rejected. Until David, the youngest, the one tending the sheep — practically invisible in the eyes of his own family — was presented. And God said: "This is the one."
It is no coincidence that David was small in stature. It is not accidental that he was the youngest son. It is not without meaning that he was away with the flocks while his family received the prophet. God chose precisely the one the world would have discarded. And that boy became the greatest king of Israel, the man after God's own heart, the one whose lineage would produce Christ Himself. His apparent weakness? It was exactly the place where God's strength would manifest most clearly.
Perhaps you feel forgotten, small, inadequate. Perhaps you have experienced rejections that made you question your worth. Perhaps others have told you that you would never be enough. But today, God wants you to know: He sees what no one else sees. He knows the true size of your heart. He knows the potential that sleeps within you, waiting only for a word of courage to awaken. You do not need applause to be important; you do not need fame to be loved. God has already chosen you.
True abundance does not lie in being noticed by everyone, but in being known and loved by the One who truly matters. Today, recognize that your smallness is the perfect stage for God's greatness.
