Sometimes blessing doesn't arrive as we expect. It doesn't come in trumpets or heavenly fanfares. It comes quietly, almost unnoticed, in the midst of the work of rebuilding what was broken. This is what Haggai teaches us in this Thursday devotional, a day dedicated to recognizing divine providence.
The context is touching: the people of Israel had returned from exile, but they were discouraged. The new temple was not as grand as the old one. The plants still bore no fruit. The barns were still empty. Everything still seemed to be lack and reconstruction. But God sent the prophet Haggai with a revolutionary message: "From now on, I will bless you." Not because everything was perfect, but because they had begun the good work.
There is profound wisdom in this. God's abundance does not depend on ideal circumstances. It doesn't wait for everything to be fixed, for you to have your dream home, the perfect job, or completely restored health. It begins to flow when you take a step of obedience, when you begin to rebuild, when you say yes to the calling even feeling afraid. God blesses the beginning, not just the end.
Think about your life today. Perhaps you are in reconstruction. Perhaps your barn still seems empty. Perhaps the people around you are progressing and you feel left behind. But God sees your effort. He sees when you wake up and try again. He sees when you choose to trust even when everything seems insufficient. And He says exactly what He said to Israel: "From now on, I will bless you." Abundance begins in the recognition that you are seen, loved, and provided for by the God who created the harvests.
May you take a deep breath today and recognize: you don't need to be perfect to be blessed. You just need to be in motion, trusting, rebuilding. The blessings are already on their way.
