"Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you."
— 1 Peter 5:7
How many nights have you woken in the early hours with your heart racing? How many times has fear of the future stolen your peace, even when everything around you seemed fine? Anxiety is an invisible weight we carry — often alone — trying to resolve by ourselves what only God has the power to transform. Today, you are not alone in this struggle. God invites you to a revolutionary act of faith: lay that burden at the foot of the cross.
Peter wrote his letter to Christians who were suffering persecution. They had legitimate reasons to be anxious. Their possessions were confiscated, their families were separated, their lives were in danger. But Peter did not offer them escapism or denial of reality. Instead, he directed them to a greater truth: there is Someone who cares deeply about every detail of our lives. The verb "cast" in the original Greek means "to throw" or "to hurl" — it is not a gentle laying down, but a decisive act of liberation. God invites us to a violent surrender of our worries.
Anxiety thrives on the illusion that you are in control. It whispers that if you just worry enough, think enough, plan in enough detail, you will manage to avoid pain and failure. But this is a deep lie. Control is an illusion; true security lies only in the hands of a God who loves us and already knows the future. Surrendering anxiety means acknowledging that you are not God, and that it is perfectly all right. It is an act of radical humility and, simultaneously, of extraordinary trust.
How, then, do you practice this surrender? Start by naming your specific anxiety — do not keep it vague and generalized inside your chest. If it is financial fear, speak it aloud. If it is concern about a relationship, bring it to light. If it is insecurity about the future, be honest about it. Then, in literal prayer, "cast" it before God. Some find power in writing their fears on paper and burning it. Others offer prayers of lament and surrender. Still others walk while speaking their concerns aloud to the Father. After casting, resist the temptation to pick the burden back up — because God has said He cares for you.
This is the invitation for today: you do not have to carry it alone. God will not only accept your anxiety; He will carry it for you. Peace will not come because all your problems disappear, but because you have finally stopped carrying the weight alone. May this night you sleep in genuine peace, knowing that your Father is keeping watch while you rest.
Prayer:
Beloved Father, I confess that I have been carrying these fears alone for too long. I surrender to You now everything that burdens me: every fear, every doubt, every worry about tomorrow. Help me to truly let go and trust that You care for me perfectly. Grant me peace that surpasses my understanding. Amen.
