"In the morning, O Lord, You hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before You and wait in expectation."
— Psalm 5:3
There is something sacred in the silence of the early hours of the day. Before the world awakens with its urgencies and demands, there exists a precious space where you can be completely with God. It is not superstition or empty ritualism to begin your day in the presence of the Eternal; it is, in truth, a deep acknowledgment that your life flows better when founded on the One who sustains it with every breath.
The psalmist did not offer his first words to work, to problems, or even to family. His priority was clear: God deserved the best moments of his day. In that era, as today, this required intentionality. It means waking up a few minutes earlier, leaving the phone off, quieting an anxious mind, and simply being. The prophet Jeremiah also experienced this truth when he said that God's mercies are renewed each morning and that His faithfulness is great. When we begin the day in genuine gratitude for renewed grace, something shifts within us.
Many try to live Christian lives structured on emotion and impulse, hoping to feel God's presence only in extraordinary moments. But most saints discovered that consistency in morning encounters with God builds an intimacy that does not depend on fluctuating feelings. It is in the quiet of dawn that you hear the still, small voice that whispers: you are loved, you are seen, you are not alone. In that unhurried, unperformed space, God speaks to the heart in ways the busyness of day would never allow.
How can you begin your day in God's presence today? It does not need to be elaborate. Perhaps a few minutes reading a psalm, praying your concerns honestly, remaining in silence long enough to listen. Some find this while walking, others over coffee, on the porch, or kneeling at the bedside. The method matters less than the intention of placing God first. When you make this a habit of the heart, not just of the schedule, the patterns of your entire life begin to realign with divine purpose.
May this day bring you the courage to come first before the Father. May your first words be offered to the Creator, and may the result be a peace that no circumstance can steal. The hours ahead will be blessed not because everything will be perfect, but because you already know whose you are.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of this new morning and for the opportunity to be in Your presence. Help me to prioritize these early moments with You, knowing that from them flows wisdom for every decision. May my first words always be words of worship and gratitude to You. Amen.
