"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come."

— 2 Corinthians 5:17

Today is the first day of April, and perhaps you feel the weight of unkept resolutions from January, of plans that collapsed, of mistakes that still burn in your memory. It is easy to carry guilt like a backpack that grows ever heavier. But the truth we want to share today is as revolutionary as it is simple: you do not have to be a prisoner of your past.

When Paul wrote these words to the Corinthians, he was addressing a community marked by divisions, immorality, and spiritual confusion. Many of them had truly disastrous lives before meeting Christ. But the apostle does not offer them a lecture on behavior change or self-discipline. He offers something far deeper: a death and a resurrection. "If anyone is in Christ" — that small phrase carries an entire revolution. It is not about improving yourself. It is about letting who you were die and being born again in Christ.

All the difficulty in changing our lives comes from an illusion: we believe we must carry our old self into the future and then try to improve it. But that is like trying to patch a fabric that has already disintegrated. Christian reality is not reform; it is radical transformation. You do not merely receive forgiveness for your mistakes — you become a different person. One who practiced lust can now desire purity. One who was consumed by greed can discover the joy of generosity. Not because they grew stronger, but because a completely new life inhabits their spirit.

So how does this work practically in your day? When the shame of the past comes knocking at your door, respond with the truth: "That person died. I am new in Christ." This is not denial; it is resurrected reality. Every time you choose to forgive yourself, every time you refuse to be defined by your previous failures, you are living out this extraordinary truth. You are saying no to what you were and yes to what you are now.

This is your invitation today: accept that you have genuinely changed. Not perfectly — transformation is a lifelong process — but genuinely. The old things have passed away. And this promise is not only for the future; it begins now, in this moment, on this April day that opens before you like new and uncharted territory.

Prayer:

Lord, I recognize that I still carry the weight of my past as if it were my present. Thank You for offering me something far greater than forgiveness: a completely new life in You. Help me to truly believe that who I was has died, and that I am now alive with a different heart. May I live this resurrection with each new day.

Deus não está longe. Ele está aqui, nesse momento, com você.
